What the Church Can Learn When The Bills Release Fred Jackson?

Fred Jackson tweeted 2 days ago "Thank you Buffalo!! We have loved being part of this community. The fan support has been overwhelming. The Old Man isn't done yet!!" This was the Team Captain's response to the Buffalo Bills deciding to cut him after 8 years with the team.

Yes, its football. Yes, its just a game. But can the church learn something here?

1. People will always have strong opinions after tough decisions are made.
Read through Exodus, and take note of all the times you will see the words "grumbling and complaining" from the people of Israel. However, Godly men and woman should not back away from making tough decisions for fear of what people say. For the Spirit God gave us does not make us timid, but gives us power, love and self-discipline. 2 Timothy 1:7.

2. This too shall pass... ...or does it?
Explore the book of Ecclesiastes, and you will see Solomon, a wise man who realizes that all good things, (and bad things) come to an end. But as Paul writes to the Corinthians he encourages them: Love never fails. 1 Corinthians 13:8 We can't say that about any other element of this life. In eternity, for instance, there is no place for what we think of as the permanent fixtures in this life: there will be no morning and night, there will be no sun or moon, there will be no mountains and no sea, there will be no stomach, (full or empty) there will be no death or mourning or crying or pain, there will be no church or temple, there will be no swords or guns. But there will be love.

What do you think? Do you live in fear? Or, do you choose to live to love?

  1. Thanks for drawing some spiritual conclusions to a very important event in the life of many Buffalo Bills fans. Good to look at life through God's eyes and not just the latest 11 o'clock news. Thanks Milo. I think about the other side of the release and that is how painful it is for so many fans. They may not have ever met Fred Jackson in person but yet because of the media they were connected as if they were family. Proverbs 3:5 says for us to trust in the Lord with all our heart even in disappointing times like this.
