What I Learned About Church Planting At Spin Class

This week I went to my first spin class at the YMCA. I've been to spin class before, but we just moved to a new gym, so I had never been to this particular spin class before. I checked out what the spin class would be like online. I looked at their website, read about what to expect. I picked up a flier at the main desk to verify the schedule, and went to the gym specifically a day early without entering the class, just so I could peer in the door, and see what the class looked like in person. Then, yesterday I went to spin class. I arrived exactly 3 minutes before start. This way I wouldn't be late, but I also wouldn't have to carry on awkward first conversations. The instructor came by my bike, took my name and offered to show me how to use it. I politely declined, but it felt nice to be welcomed. After 10 minutes in, I noticed someone up front that I knew. I thought, "Wow, didn't know he came here!" Enjoyed the class, but headed out quickly because I had to get home. My friend caught me in the hall and told me how nice it was to see me there. He also invited me to come back Thursday and do it all over again. I think I will!

This week I went to my first church service at Renewal. I've been to church before, but we just moved to a new city, so I had never been to this particular church before. I checked out what the worship service would be like online. I looked at their website, read about what to expect. I picked up a flier at the church office during the week to verify the schedule, and went to the church parking lot specifically a week early without coming in, just so I could check out the parking lot, and see what gathering looked like in person. Then, yesterday I went to church. I arrived exactly 5 minutes before start. This way I wouldn't be late, but I also wouldn't have to carry on awkward first conversations. The pastor came by seat, asked my name and offered to get me a cup of coffee from the ReFuel Cafe. I politely declined, but it felt nice to be welcomed. After 10 minutes in, I noticed someone up front that I knew. I thought, "Wow, didn't know he came here!" Enjoyed the worship gathering, but headed out quickly because I had to get home. My friend caught me in the hall and told me how nice it was to see me there. He also invited me to come back next week and do it all over again. I think I will!
