Rebuilding Christmas

Nehemiah begins with lamenting over the city of Jerusalem. "Those back in the province are in great trouble and disgrace. The wall of Jerusalem is broken down and its gates have been burned with fire." Nehemiah 1:3b. This describes the situation in parts of most American cities today. The church has let let the city walls deteriorate.

This Christmas, will you think about your zip code? In what ways has the city deteriorated over the last 40 years? What would it look like this Christmas for our church to rebuild city walls in regards to safety, security, in meeting the needs of the poor, the marginalized, and the growing refugee population?

"Churches should be seen as lovers of their community and neighborhoods. It is out of the church body that ideas and programs should emerge." - Wayne Gordon

What can you do this season that can Rebuild Christmas in your zip code?
